Volunteering: Practical guide

🗓️

When projects need help

Volunteering also has seasons. Match the month to the real project cycle, not just to the destination’s weather.

Spring

Organic farms: sowing, planting, greenhouse work, repairs and preparing guest areas. Hostels and eco-projects begin building teams for summer.

Summer

Farm care, weeding, irrigation and early harvests; hostels, camps, surf/coastal projects and festivals reach their busiest period.

Autumn

Fruit, grape and olive harvests, preserving and farm cleanup. Community and hostel projects may shift toward events, maintenance or language exchange.

Winter

Pruning, forestry, animal care, maintenance and indoor projects; mountain hostels and ski areas can peak. Remember: Southern Hemisphere seasons are reversed.

Guidance only: verify every vacancy, host, contract, exchange condition, cost and safety requirement on the original source before making a decision.
