Work rights & permits
Citizenship, destination and contract length determine the route. EU and EEA mobility helps many applicants, while third-country seasonal rules differ in every country.
EU and EEA nationals can generally work across Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway under free-movement rules. Registration, tax, identity-number and residence formalities can still apply, especially for longer stays.
A non-EU/EEA seasonal permit covers genuine seasonal work or a documented holiday replacement. The maximum is normally six months in a twelve-month period, and a concrete full-time offer is central to the application.
Non-EU applicants who are resident outside the EU can use the seasonal-worker route when all conditions are met. From 1 June 2026, seasonal permits can cover up to nine months in a twelve-month period.
For eligible non-EU seasonal work, stays up to 90 days may require a seasonal-work certificate or visa; work lasting 3–9 months uses a residence permit. A confirmed employment contract is required.
Nordic, EU, EEA and Swiss citizens do not need a Danish work permit. Other nationals must qualify under an available Danish scheme; do not assume that an ordinary seasonal farm or hospitality offer creates a permit route.
