Work permits & eligibility

Tourist entry is not work authorisation. Start with the route that fits your passport, age, student status, employer and exact type of work before paying for travel.

Canada: IEC

International Experience Canada includes Working Holiday, Young Professionals and International Co-op categories. Eligibility, age limit, quota and permit duration depend on citizenship; the 2026 season is open.

Canada: other permits

Jobs outside IEC may require an employer-specific permit or another authorised route. A vacancy on Job Bank is not, by itself, proof that an employer can hire a foreign worker.

USA: J-1 Summer Work Travel

Designed for eligible full-time post-secondary students outside the United States. Participation goes through a designated sponsor and the maximum programme length is four months.

USA: H-2A

An employer-led route for temporary agricultural work. The certified job order contains the occupation, dates, wage, housing, transport and other required conditions.

USA: H-2B

An employer-led route for temporary non-agricultural work such as certain seasonal hospitality or recreation roles. The employer must establish a temporary need and complete the programme process.

Guidance only: verify current immigration, employment, wage, tax and housing rules on the linked official websites before making decisions. Wage floors shown are gross and may have coverage exceptions.
